Our facilities

We pride ourselves on offering more facilities than any other allotment site in the Borough. We have a toilet on site, convenient water supplies,  a range of machinery for plotholders to use, a Trading Hut but most importantly a warm welcome into the Alers Road Allotment Community.

  • Toilet – A few years ago we built a Compost Toilet (The first in Bexley Borough) and this has added enormously to the site’s facilities. It is Disabled Friendly and now something we couldn’t do without.

  • Water Supply – We have a mains water supply to the site, and this feeds Dipping Tanks for plotholder’s use. Typically there is a dipping tank within easy reach of all plots. NB.  It is forbidden to use hose pipes or other methods of watering the plots other that the dipping of watering cans into the tanks.

  • Machinery – The Association owns a range of garden machinery which is available to plotholders for the upkeep of their plot. This includes strimmers, mowers and large and small cultivators along with a fully equipped workshop. We don’t have a set ‘Hire Fee’ but ask all plotholders that use the machinery to contribute to an ‘Honesty Box’ to help cover the costs.

  • Access to the machinery is from the Committee Members who are keyholders these are:

John Hollands/62,110

Eddy Haydon/23,24

Ray Mitchell/56

Roy Seymour/53

Adrian Hawthorne/99

  • Trading Hut – We have an allotment shop that is operated by our sister society Bexleyheath and District Horticultural Society. The shop is open on Sunday mornings from 10.30 to 12.00 and sells compost, fertiliser, seeds, seed potatoes, onion sets and a range of gardening sundries – all at prices even B&Q can’t match.

  • Help and advice - This may seem a strange ‘Facility’ but for any new plotholder it may seem a bit daunting taking on an allotment. Don’t worry! We have 120 other plotholders who are more than willing to assist with help and advice. You certainly won’t feel alone when taking a plot at Alers Road.
