Alers Road Leisure Gardens Association

Alers Road Leisure Gardens Association was formed in 1991 when Bexley Council gave allotment sites the option to undertake ‘Delegated Management’. This involved the allotment holders forming a committee, electing officers and taking on the day to day management of the site under a licence agreement from Bexley Council.

 

In the many years since undertaking Delegated Management the site has gone from strength to strength. We have been very successful in providing what we are sure is the premier allotment site in Bexley Borough.

 

We have been placed in the top three of ‘Best Allotment Site’ for Ruxley in Bloom every year since the competition started and have won this title a number of times. We also won Bexley’s Environmental Challenge – Community Section and came fourth in the overall competition for the construction of our Compost Toilet in 2014. We have 120 plots and a number are split into ‘Halves’ as some people find a full plot too much to manage. We have a wide range of plotholders – from the ‘Dig for Victory’ types who cultivate every square inch with vegetables, to the families who have vegetables, fruit, flowers and an area for relaxing – and just about everything in between.
